Most Common Complaints About SEO Companies – But Are They Always Fair?
Because SEO is not a physical product, it often leads to many company owners and firm bosses dismissing SEO as an unnecessary procedure and therefore building a list of complaints or gripes. Any SEO company will tell you they hear complaints or questions which usually centre on the same sort of thing, with some of them being fair but the majority not.
Below, we look at the most common complaints, questions or queries that a search engine optimisation company can hear from clients and also look at whether we think they are fair or unfair from the client’s point of view.
Keywords Have Dropped – Using a SEO consultancy does not mean you will keep level or increase for all of your keywords. From time to time, the engines will change their algorithms, your rivals will step up a gear or a thousand other reasons why the keywords might drop. Keywords do fluctuate from time to time so although it is important to let your SEO company know that the keyword has dropped, it is also important not to blame them and to look at the overall picture.
Small Increase In Traffic – Just because your traffic only increases by a small amount this does not mean the SEO firm have not done a good job. If your traffic increases by 10% but your sales increase by 40% for example, we would argue that the SEO company has done a great job because not only have they increased the traffic, they have also delivered much better and targeted traffic.
Partial Or Lack Of Reporting – We feel that this complaint is a perfectly valid one. Many of our clients who have switched to us feel that one of the main reasons they have left their old SEO Company is due to the lack of reporting back. Any firm can send a list of keywords and their placements, but very few will send a detailed list of exactly what they have done and a detailed analysis of the hours that were used that month.
It Costs Too Much – We feel that this is a relative statement. If you are spending £300 a month with a SEO company, but sales have increased by 50% and you are now seeing record sales, are you paying too much? Indeed, some companies do charge a lot of money but if they are delivering results then it is hard to say whether it really does cost too much or it is simply too much for the persons saying it.
I Don’t Understand What They Are Doing – Again, this is a fair question to be asked. A good and trustworthy SEO consultancy will sit you down and explain what they will be doing for you and work out your objectives. They will then report to you on a weekly or monthly basis showing you what they have done and how they have gone about this.
Sales Have Only Increased By A Small Amount – Increasing your traffic is only half the battle, making sure your product is correctly priced and needed by the consumer takes up a large part of the second half. Just because your traffic increases will not automatically mean that your sales will if you are selling a product, this relies on the product being competitively priced and also making sure there really is a needed for it in the market.
I Am Not Top Of Google – When a company employs an SEO consultancy, many think it is the end of all of their traffic woes and they will shoot to the top of Google within weeks. Sometimes a reality check is needed. Employing or hiring a SEO firm does not mean you are going to get top of any search engine immediately, it can take months and months of really hard work and some of it needs to be done by the client, nothing is guaranteed.
I Can Do It Myself, Why Pay You? – Most SEO companies will have heard this one a million times and to be honest, it is a fair question to be asked but the fact the client is asking it in a way answers the question. If you can do the SEO yourself, you will not need to seek the work of a consultancy. SEO is not rocket science or some kind of magic, it is simply hard work and knowing the areas in great detail and strength upon which you are working in, so if you have the time and effort, you can indeed do it yourself.
